Rosemary Browne, born to immigrant Irish parents hailing from Counties Longford and Waterford, began Irish dance lessons at the age of four with the Kathleen Mulkerin School of Irish Dance in Connecticut. Along with her four brothers, she danced throughout her childhood, attaining championship level status by the age of twelve. Much of Rosemary’s Irish dance experience involved exhibitions throughout Connecticut and New York; highlights include television appearances and performances with various Irish cabaret shows, including Carmel Quinn at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She was also a featured performer on a dance tour of Ireland with her school during the US Bicentennial festival in 1976.
During her college years, Rosemary maintained her dancing ties by joining the Jeanne McGrath School of Irish Dance in Washington, DC. Her dancing days took a back seat during her late twenties and early thirties, and as she completed medical school and residency requirements, and also produced three beautiful children.
Upon moving to Arizona, Rosemary took some time off from her medical career to raise her family. At that time she also reconnected with the Irish dancing culture, as her own darling little girl began to take lessons. Rosemary then began teaching and studying Irish dance again in earnest, and obtained her T.C.R.G exam in 1999. For the past eight years, Rosemary has happily passed on the traditions of Irish dance and culture in the Old Pueblo.
Recently, as she has also resumed her medical career, Rosemary is only teaching at the academy part-time. She stays actively involved with the school, however, through performance choreography, ceili work, dress design, and administrative duties. She loves Irish culture and Irish dance, and feels it is a tremendous privilege to help to mold young people (and encourage older ones) to pursue the challenging art of Irish dancing.
